{"id":10510,"date":"2021-01-08T12:53:46","date_gmt":"2021-01-08T12:53:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cassandravoices.com\/?p=10510"},"modified":"2021-01-08T12:53:46","modified_gmt":"2021-01-08T12:53:46","slug":"poetry-fisheye-by-nicholas-battey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casswp.eutonom.eu\/index.php\/2021\/01\/08\/poetry-fisheye-by-nicholas-battey\/","title":{"rendered":"Poetry: Fisheye by Nicholas Battey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Fisheye<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I, smudge in the eyescape of others,<br \/>\nAs my trowel lodges in mulch,<br \/>\nPalm-sore, snuggle the quiet bulbs<br \/>\nInto the trickling earth which inhumes us,<br \/>\nWhile these, artfully coned, only swoon<br \/>\nTo consecrate a humble bloom.<\/p>\n<p>The sun paints everslant shadows all day<br \/>\nIn this great sphere of transition<br \/>\nCentring nowhere, where I witness<br \/>\nClattering jackdaws, black hands at edges of vision;<br \/>\nA pigeon diving to the ancient oak<br \/>\nDescants over a cloudsong.<\/p>\n<p>I work head down and I do not care<br \/>\nAbout the crunching crowds along<br \/>\nThe path, children puddle-jumping,<br \/>\nAll actions an acting in the long<br \/>\nBlind sleep of self, beneath the bronze Scots pines,<br \/>\nAplomb, adamantine<\/p>\n<p>Sentinels, setiferous fists raised to the hollow blue,<br \/>\nHeedless of a conscious cry.<br \/>\nHedges patrol, keep watch on me,<br \/>\nVain and stretched in fisheye,<br \/>\nWhere the early frost becomes a forest of drops<br \/>\nOn the blinkless, lashy grass.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fisheye I, smudge in the eyescape of others, As my trowel lodges in mulch, Palm-sore, snuggle the quiet bulbs Into the trickling earth which inhumes us, While these, artfully coned, only swoon To consecrate a humble bloom.
