{"id":11588,"date":"2021-06-02T11:09:23","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T10:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cassandravoices.com\/?p=11588"},"modified":"2021-06-02T11:09:23","modified_gmt":"2021-06-02T10:09:23","slug":"poetry-kevin-higgins-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casswp.eutonom.eu\/index.php\/2021\/06\/02\/poetry-kevin-higgins-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Poetry: Kevin Higgins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Most Risk-Taking Poet In Ireland<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My split infinitives clearly the work of a man<br \/>\nwho dries his clothes recklessly,<br \/>\nsometimes not emptying the lint tray<br \/>\ntwo cycles in a row.<\/p>\n<p>At the height of my experiments with formal verse<br \/>\nI once drove a Ford Focus<br \/>\nat a tantalising twenty nine kilometres per hour<br \/>\nwhen the legal limit was thirty.<\/p>\n<p>During my decadent prose-poem phase<br \/>\nI tiptoed past a locked apartment door,<br \/>\nbehind which, I\u2019m pretty sure,<br \/>\nthere was an orgy going on.<\/p>\n<p>Under the influence of Samuel Taylor Coleridge,<br \/>\nI once took one more Paracetamol<br \/>\nthan I should have.<\/p>\n<p>In a rare outbreak of concrete poetry,<br \/>\nI yesterday regrouted the shower tiles myself.<\/p>\n<p>Trying to mimic Rimbaud vanishing in Abyssinia,<br \/>\nback when I was young and even more foolish<br \/>\nthan this, I once accidentally went<br \/>\nto Dorset.<\/p>\n<p>My contribution to metaphor<br \/>\nin the twenty first century<br \/>\nis at least as important<br \/>\nas the cat yawning.<\/p>\n<p>Risk, for me, is going<br \/>\nto a different garden centre<br \/>\nat least once every five years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Most Risk-Taking Poet In Ireland My split infinitives clearly the work of a man who dries his clothes recklessly, sometimes not emptying the lint tray two cycles in a row.
