\nYou used to dig the plantains
\nout by hand and rake the moss
\nbut after you went I called in
\na firm to weed and feed\u00a0 the lawn.
\nIt is green and even now,
\nclear of buttercups and daisies.
\nI start at the outside mowing in
\nuntil there is only a thin rectangle left.
\nThen that too is smooth, flat
\nas the oblong of your grave.<\/p>\n
\nnot in a municipal cemetery;
\nan acre that is more than just a place
\noverwatered by tears of misery.
\nOne that shows the world a happier face
\nenriched with centuries of history.
\nCrematoria grow only funeral wreaths,
\nmowed lawns with granulated bones beneath.<\/p>\n
\nto totter on my plot to see the bride
\nand chuck confetti while children kneel
\nto make their fragile daisy chains beside
\nmy headstone, where teenagers conceal
\nillicit cans of lager drunk outside.
\nSo that my body there is just another layer
\nin the geology of hope and prayer.<\/p>\n
