Fragments of a Litany
\n<\/b>Gaza, 2023-24<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Grieve with the butchered gods of love<\/span>
\nfor Layan al-Baz, the young, the strong,<\/span><\/div>\n
her soft arms cut by shrapnel,<\/span>
\nher wounded leg a stump.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n

May the world record unquietly<\/span>
\nthe wordless eyes of Abdul,<\/span><\/p>\n

of Kenza, and Karam \u2013 who buried<\/span>
\ntheir mothers in a barren yard.<\/span><\/p>\n

And remember the nameless orphan, too:<\/span>
\nremoved from the rubble of a screaming ward\u00a0 \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n

blood in the mouth, her vision blurred.<\/span>
\nSow seeds, oh poem, for the baby, Salma,<\/span><\/p>\n

and her shock-haired sister, Alma, twin,<\/span>
\nmewling by the roadside when the brutal rains abate.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
