Our separated frames fused<br \/>\nto witness the in-person<br \/>\nrejection of otherlessness. Two Canadians<br \/>\nentered the gallery, laughing under starry pointed hats.<br \/>\nWere they suggesting<\/p>\n<p>we far-flung wedding guests, fixed<br \/>\nto the wall, watching and waiting, might have a party<br \/>\nof our own? Dublin man<br \/>\nfetched himself a sunhat. He handled<br \/>\nhis brim a lot. I left the screen and found my bonnet \u2013<\/p>\n<p>orange felt, with a yellow<br \/>\nflower, in a cupboard I never use.<br \/>\nThe Canadians waved me back to my chair.<br \/>\nThe Chicago Mississippi-<br \/>\nBankside lady pierced the screen<\/p>\n<p>with solemnity \u2013 who would not be solemn<br \/>\nat the imminence of such<br \/>\nvows \u2013 then disappeared behind<br \/>\nclouds of simulated background.\u00a0 She came back<br \/>\nQueened, in a boat of black<\/p>\n<p>hat, that was tulled and beaded<br \/>\nand pinned tight to her slowly unsombreing stare.<br \/>\nOur four tiny head-high squares<br \/>\nof life sparkled over the grey room. We<br \/>\nmade champagne-rich speeches about commitment<\/p>\n<p>to wear and be worn by, to cover<br \/>\nand to be covered by. My partner was bare-<br \/>\nheaded. He never wears a hat, only a sun visor<br \/>\nthat shades his sight<br \/>\nwhen the heat-sapped tryst of eye<\/p>\n<p>and sky is painful. The bride folded her veil back<br \/>\ninto a hood. The groom<br \/>\nmeditated on her draped hair<br \/>\nand then on her naked face.
