{"id":16928,"date":"2024-10-15T17:03:39","date_gmt":"2024-10-15T16:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cassandravoices.com\/?p=16928"},"modified":"2024-10-15T17:03:39","modified_gmt":"2024-10-15T16:03:39","slug":"poem-the-first-of-february","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casswp.eutonom.eu\/index.php\/2024\/10\/15\/poem-the-first-of-february\/","title":{"rendered":"Poem: The First of February"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The First of February<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well, here\u2019s a pile of puke on a bank of snow,<br \/>\nYoga-pants-purple, budget-cocktail-blue,<br \/>\nLava lurid as a toy volcano,<br \/>\nDay-glo confetti frozen stiff as glue.<\/p>\n<p>The fire hydrant\u2019s calked in hardened gum.<br \/>\nA Phillies Blunt\u2019s in a bottle of Pepsi<br \/>\nInside a purple Shark Week Slurpee,<br \/>\nAnd it looks like someone pissed all over them.<\/p>\n<p>A ghost-ship umbrella is partway jammed<br \/>\nIn the snow heap\u2019s side; its tattered black sail<br \/>\nOf nylon flutters; a stroller is crammed<br \/>\nInto a dumpster nearby. I\u2019m stuck, a snail<\/p>\n<p>Inside a crusted, slowly draining tank.<br \/>\nThe chill in me is deeper than I\u2019d like,<br \/>\nMy pockets packed with lint, the blue snowbank,<br \/>\nSpiked with pink spokes of a Barbie bike.<\/p>\n<p>Lingerie spills from a cast-off backpack.<br \/>\nThe neon tubes are dismal, dark at dawn:<br \/>\nDRAFT BEER now drab, the BAR sign simply black,<br \/>\nLatimer Deli\u2019s knife-steel grate still down.<\/p>\n<p>The stained-glass windows of McGlinchey\u2019s Bar<br \/>\nAre dead.
